Graduate Hydrogen Consultant

The Low Carbon Business Unit (LCBU) within Gemserv is a highly focused consultancy specialising in strategy, regulation, policy and politics affecting the sustainable energy sector in the UK and in the EU. We specialise in helping our clients to achieve tangible and meaningful changes in regulation and policy that will make a real difference to the uptake of sustainable energy. We use our strategic insight gained from this experience to translate complex regulatory frameworks, technological developments and market trends into clear actionable advice for business and organisational leadership teams.

Within the LCBU, we are looking for a talented graduate to join our Hydrogen Team, supporting the development of strategic initiatives, consultancy offerings and project development in this exciting growth sector. One such example is the Hydrogen UK industrial group, where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the debate and future outlook of hydrogen in this country.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for an individual interested in sustainability, policy, hydrogen and the low-carbon transition, working within a highly motivated team and fast-paced environment, to help achieve action on climate change.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to acquire and develop a comprehensive set of skills needed to realise their long-term career prospects in the low-carbon energy transition. Examples include: project management; technical authorship; business development; secretarial management; stakeholder influencing; bid delivery and securing innovation-style investment.


Reporting to the Hydrogen Senior Consultant, the successful candidate will be required to:

  • Contribute to the delivery of consultancy projects on time and within budget
  • Develop proposal documents, technical reports, presentations and materials for the Gemserv business and external clients.
  • Participate on-going business development activities to grow the hydrogen opportunities pipeline, through bid activities, client relationships and retainer-based memberships
  • Collaborate with other Gemserv teams and clients to ascertain business opportunities, deliver cross-functional projects and assimilate knowledge of value to the hydrogen team
  • Represent Gemserv interests at appropriate stakeholder events, including Westminster events and industrial networking forums.
  • Manage the project workload within agreed constraints and provide administrative and progress information to the Hydrogen Senior Consultant.



We are looking for candidates who are developing their career aspirations in the energy sector, particularly in a hydrogen context, seeking comprehensive exposure across industry, businesses, academia and Government.


  • Degree qualified in an engineering, science, technology, or business discipline
  • An interest in energy, policy
  • Organised, analytical and detail driven with strong computer literacy
  • Self-starter with strong critical thinking skills
  • Well-rounded communication, influencing and presentation skills, with ability to translate technical information into actionable insights across multiple audiences
  • Fluency in English


  • A working knowledge of hydrogen production, storage, distribution or end-use applications.
  • Previous industrial or consultancy experience
  • A recognised project management or financial modelling accreditation
